Post Medieval Sandstone Monk
WESTERN EUROPE, 17TH-18TH CENTURY A.D.
5 5/8 in. (600 grams, 14.2 cm high).
Carved with semi-naturalistic facial features and a tonsured head, wearing a hooded cloak with ample sleeves, seated reading from the gospels held open on his lap.

The 'Riace Bronzes' are two full-size Greek bronzes of bearded warriors, dating from about 450 B.C. that were found in the sea near Riace, Calabria, southern Italy in 1972. They are now in the Museo Nazionale della Magna Grecia in the city of Reggio Calabria. -
