Post Medieval Inlaid Bronze Cross Pendant
18TH-19TH CENTURY A.D.
4 3/4 in. (103 grams, 12.2 cm).
Substantial in form with chamfered edges, ribbed and collared bale, four inset blue glass studs and a central gold-in-glass panel. [No Reserve]

Formerly in the private collection of Russian businessman Yuri Golubev (1942-2007), some of his collection was published in his book 'Symbols and Images’.

From the Hukawng Valley in northern Myanmar. Acquired in Assam in the 1980s. From the private collection of a Somerset gentleman. Accompanied by a copy of a letter from Dr Andrew J. Ross FRES, of the National Museum of Scotland, concerning testing carried out on the necklace.
Dr Ross states: 'The internal fractures and flow planes are consistent with what you see in amber, and although it does not contain any identifiable insect inclusions, the organic fragments that are present and the general colours appear consistent with Burmese amber.' -

Painted on a wooden board, at the centre the Holy Empress of Georgia, Tamara the Great, shown on the left, dressed in rich blue, white and red clothing with pearls around her neck and wearing a crown; on the right, Saint Valerian dressed in an emerald green robe and red cloak, holding a crozier, with a highly ornate gilt background. 269 grams, 17.8 x 14.4 cm
