Post Medieval Group of Semi-Precious Stone Stamp Seals

18TH-19TH CENTURY A.D.

5/8 - 3/4 in. (33 grams total, 15-18 mm).

Each cut, polished and engraved to one face with a scene or word: 'Charlotte'; 'What thous speakest and now beware of whom to whom when and where'; 'pray dont' over scene of cat hunting mouse; 'I catch the most cunning' over winged boy holding a dog'; an inscription in French with plant motif. [5, No Reserve]

    In medieval Southampton the various forms of pottery included cooking pots with the beaded rim and opposing pair of handles, as it was probably also the specimen presented in this ensemble. Beauvais earthenware is a smooth, fine white fabric with some fine quartz grains. Vessels have a rich lustrous lead glaze and floral designs.
