18TH CENTURY AD
3/4" (2.87 grams, 22 mm overall, 18.11 mm internal diameter (approximate size British P 1/2, USA 7 3/4, Europe 16.86, Japan 16)).
A D-section gold hoop with expanding shoulders featuring overlapping rosette detailing, discoid bezel and inset table-cut garnet; to the reverse, the initials 'TA' in a florid hand.
PROVENANCE:
Found at Carronbridge, Dumfries and Galloway, Scotland, and disclaimed under reference TTNC.2012/051 (with document).
FOOTNOTES:
The garnet exhibits a fine example of very early gemstone faceting. Garnets are often cut as very shallow stones in that the colour is so strong that in deeper cut stones they can appear black.
