23 1/4" (23 kg, 59 cm).
A carved marble figural architectural plaque, one of the central elements of a large and important chimney breast, with chamfered rear edges depicting Maenads in a Bacchic procession, the rear figure with vessel and a naked child behind.
ProvenanceFound Folkestone Road, Walthamstow, 1976, while excavating for fence posts by vendor's father. Published in the Guardian 19th November 1976 and exhibited in Walthamstow's Vestry House Museum in the 1970s.
