Philistia (Palestine), Uncertain Mint AR Drachm. Mid 5th century-333 BC. Imitating Athens.

Head of Athena with profile eye to right, wearing disc earring and Attic helmet; Aramaic letter 'shin' on cheek / Owl standing to right, head facing the viewer, olive sprig and crescent(?) in upper left field, all within shallow incuse circle. Unpublished in the standard references including Huth and Gitler & Tal. About Fine. Exceedingly rare; apparently unpublished with this letter on Athena's cheek and possibly unique.(3.87gr, 13mm, 3h.).

From the collection of a gentleman, acquired on the London art market in the 1990s.
