Persian Religious Manuscript Gifted on Behalf of Judge Qazi Mohammad
17TH CENTURY A.D.
9 1/4 x 6 7/8 in. (821 grams, 23.4 x 17.5 cm).
Bound paper manuscript with text in Farsi script, the pages with applied stiff paper edges and binding; mainly set out in three blue-ink ruled columns with text in black ink and headings in red, or as a larger block spanning all three columns with text in a more expansive hand; some marginal notations, numerals, etc.; library binding with olive-green leather covers, decorative tooling and stamped arabesque ornament picked out in red-brown, red spine; the text with inter alia references to Moses, Mount Sinai, Mullana Rummy and Abu Ali Sina; some pages stamped with the matrix of the person who donated this manuscript to a religious centre. With foliate blade, rhomboidal in section, raised mid-rib, medium length stem widening at its base and forming a small stop, rectangulat-section tang with bent terminal. 198 grams, 36 cm
Acquired 1980-2015. Ex Abelita family collection.
The specimen belongs to the category of tripartite spears with long pointed biconvex blade and single bevelled tang. They seem to be a Mesopotamian and Susian (Elamite) variant, and this type also includes decorated blades, like the spear from Tello with the inscription 'King of Kish'.
