With tapering body and two lateral strap handles; reserved flower and tendril motifs across the surface with inset foliate panels: Side A - above, kneeling figure among tendrils, below: figure riding a goat; Side B - above: figure crouching among tendrils, below: figure riding a horse; base stamped 'Kinco'. The memento mori jewellery of the 16th and 17th centuries served as wearable ‘reminders of mortality’. Typical motifs within this genre included skulls, skeletons, crossbones, hourglasses, coffins, the gravedigger’s pick and shovel, and various other emblems of death and decay. -
