Lydo-Milesian standard. Sardes or subsidiary mint. Type IV (middle) B. Persian king or hero, wearing kidaris and kandys, quiver over shoulder, in kneeling-running stance to right, holding dagger in right hand, bow in left; countermarks: 118 & 7 / Oblong incuse punch; countermarks: 41 & 48(?). Carradice Type IV, Group B; BMC Arabia pl. XXVII, 11; Sunrise -. Near Very Fine.(5.50gr, 16mm.).

The method of casting this unique type of coin was adopted by the Gallic Celts who originally came from this region. Dolphins were generally struck in the form of a "tree" attached to the tail, although some examples appear to have been cast individually. -
