PAPUA NEW GUINEA HIGHLANDS, 19TH CENTURY A.D.

5 1/4 in. (7 1/2 in.) (359 grams, 13.5 cm (512 grams total, 19 cm including stand)).

Polished black basalt asymmetrical axehead with narrow rounded butt and broad cutting edge; old collector's labels and inked inscription; mounted on a custom-made stand.

With old label: ‘New Guinea NG 13 F.S Clark collection’ an inscription to reverse: ‘R. Stonard Coll 53.141’.

Acquired by the present owner from the above.
