Palestinian or Anatolian Brown Stone Stamp Seal with Sphinx
CIRCA 1200-900 B.C.
3/4 in. (4.61 grams, 18 mm).
Comprising a domed body and a large handle, accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Brown Stone with Black Patina, 17 x 17.5 x 18 mm. The seal has an oval face, with domed back with superimposed handle, which is nicely shaped. The design shows a recumbent sphynx: body of a quadruped, but human head and wings. Above its back is a bird or fly. This is a seal from Syria / Palestine or Anatolia, c. 1200-900 B.C. It is in fine condition.' [No Reserve]

Large West Central Asian Bronze Six-Spoked Wheel Seal Matrix

Openwork seal formed as a spoked wheel, accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 43 x 43 x 12 mm. This is round, with flat face and flat back, on which a loop handle is mounted. The design, which is both compartmented and open-work, consists of a rosette, with six 'rays' off a central small circular band, and a plain outer band surrounded the whole, divided into 17 segments. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. There is some wear and denting, but the piece is generally in fair condition, the metal having been conserved.' 27.9 grams, 45 mm

West Central Asian Bronze Eagle-Shaped Seal Matrix

An eagle-shaped stamp seal with a loop on the reverse, accompanied by an old scholarly note, typed and signed by W.G. Lambert, late Professor of Assyriology, University of Birmingham, 1970-1993, which states: 'Stamp Seal of Bronze, 27 x 26.5 x 10.5mm. This has the shape of the thing depicted, with a flat face, convex back rising to the middle where a handle of inverted U-shape with three grooves over it is mounted. The design, which is compartmented, shows an eagle in heraldic pose: head sideways at the top with beak raised, spread wings below, and spread tail-feathers at the bottom. This comes from west central Asia and dates to c. 2300-2000 B.C. It is a most attractive piece and in very good condition -- the metal has been conserved -- save for slight damage to the beak of the bird.' 10.2 grams, 26 mm
