Rectangular wooden panel with chamfered border, gesso and gilt surface; painted image of a standing nimbate figure, bare-headed and wearing a cuirass and red cloak, with curved rectangular shield and drawn sword; legend: 'OAΓι ΓΕωΡΓιοC' (Saint George); 'COPY 40 TAM 2' to verso and label with details in Greek, English and French 'No.1903b Byzantine Museum. Michelangelo created the original sculpture between 1501 and 1504, and it was originally commissioned as one of a series of statues of twelve prophets. However, it was then placed in the public square in front of the Palazzo della Signoria.
