Photo No 126P-KSC-67P-122 For Release March 22, 1967 Kennedy Space Center, FLA -- A Delta launch vehicle carrying an Intelsat 11communications satellite lifted off at 20:30 EST from Cape Kennedy's Launch Complex 17. NASA launched the satellite for the 56-nation International Telecommunication Satellite Consortium. The new commercial communications satellite will be placed into a stationary orbit above the Atlantic Ocean and will relay telephone, television, teletype and facsimile transmissions between North America and Europe. It also will provide communications support for NASA's Apollo lunar landing program. Two previous Intelsat satellites linked the United States mainland with the Pacific, the new one joins Early Bird, the world's first commercial communications satellite over the Atlantic; Saturn V rocket ready for lift-off, endorsed 'John F. Post Medieval Banded Agate Cameo of a Woman in Gold Ring

Hollow-formed with pie-dish bezel and inset cameo. 3.17 grams, 21.26 mm overall, 17.72 mm internal diameter (approximate size British L, USA 5 3/4, Europe 11.24, Japan 10)
Private collection, Europe. Acquired on the English art market.
The cameo is Italian and carved in the classical style of the 2nd century AD, although it dates to the 18th century. Her hair is tied back, and she is wearing a double-banded diadem. The agate displays a deep umber hue, with the bust depicted in light bluish white with highlights of light caramel. In the late 18th century, interest in the classical world became exponentially high, and demand became great for objects from or relating to the ancient world. The high-carat gold ring dates to the late 18th century; there is a small dent to the shoulder of the band. -

Post Medieval Gilt Bronze Chalice with Biblical Proverb in Latin

Squat in profile with stepped and carinated foot, deep shoulder to the bowl; engraved to the outer face in batada script between double horizontal rulings the legend 'Luxuriosa res vinum et tumultuosa ebrietas', a quotation from the biblical book of Proverbs, 20:1, translating to 'Wine is [a] luxurious [thing], and drunkenness is riotous'. 575 grams, 11.2 cm wide

The biblical sentence was retaken by Saint Paul, who, wanting to warn the believers against the power of wine, similarly instructed by saying: ‘Beware of drunken wine, where there is luxury’. This kind of gluttony was considered by the Fathers of the Church dangerous, in that, after it has deprived the drinker of all rational sense, it opens and reveals and releases from his chest every secret, every hidden thing: it was considered a prodigal throwaway of its own goods and those of others, deaf to rebukes, and a destroyer of every praiseworthy custom.
