SUNK 1752 A.D.
9 1/2 in. (1.08 kg, 24.2 cm).
With flared body and domed shoulder, narrow neck with gussetted rim, old collector's inventory label to underside '7'; rim chipped. [No Reserve]
Provenance
Salvaged by Ruben Collado Amatriain in 1992.
Accompanied by original signed declarations in both English and Spanish from Ms Mariana Faine Collado, daughter of Mr Ruben Collado Amatriain.
Published
Exhibited at the museum 'Museo de los Naufragios y Tesoros' in Punta del Este, Uruguay, from 2003-2004 and then in Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay until 2005.

In antiquity the phallic upper part would normally have have been covered by a separate bell-shaped casting of a grotesque figure wearing a waist-length hooded cape, probably inside a Gallo-Roman bronze statuette of the fertility god Priapus. -

Comprising a D-section hoop with coffin-shaped shoulder plaques, each plaque with a full skeleton on black-enamelled background; flower-shaped bezel with a central white-enamelled skull in three-quarter view with black detailing, inscription '+ DIE x TO x LIVE' surrounding. 7.57 grams, 22.30 mm overall, 19.16 x 17.53 mm internal diameter (approximate size British R, USA 8 1/2, Europe 18 3/4, Japan 18)
