NEAR EASTERN BACTRIAN CERAMIC RHYTON
5TH-3RD CENTURY BC
9 1/4" (1.4 kg, 23.5 cm including stand).

A terracotta rhyton with tubular body and everted rim, the finial a snarling feline with gaping jaws, applied eyes and ears, forepaws clenched; painted red with rows of ochre and black pellets, black painted detail to the face; mounted on a custom-made display stand.

PROVENANCE:
Property of a Lady; ex Klara Scott of Willesden, UK; acquired in the 1960s on the London art market.
