Jacques-François-Fromental-Élie Halévy (usually known as Fromental Halévy) (27 May 1799 – 17 March 1862), was a French composer in the mid-19th century. His given name Fromental (meaning 'oat grass') refers to his birth on the day (7 Prairial) dedicated to the same plant in the French Revolutionary calendar which was still operative at that time.
