Natural History - Large Dravite Tourmaline Specimen Group

A group of three Douvilleiceras sp. ammonites, sometimes known as a Goat Horn, polished to reveal rich calcites and striking suture patterns. 123 grams total, 43-47 mm

Very fine condition.

Classified as an iron meteorite belonging to the chemical group IIAB and with a coarse octahedrite structure. The Sikhote-Alin meteorite fell during daylight at 10:38 am. local time on 12th February, 1947. Witnesses reported a fireball that was brighter than the sun. It came from about 15 degrees east of north and descended at an angle of 41 degrees. It left a trail of smoke and dust 20 miles long which lingered for several hours. Light and sound of the fall were observed for two hundred miles around the point of impact.

The Nantan meteorite fell in 1516, as recorded in ancient Chinese texts; the fall exploded during descent which resulted in a shower of many individual iron meteorites over an area some 28km x 8km in Nantan County, Guangxi, China. Classified as an iron meteorite; 111CD Course Octohedrite, the composition is approximately 92% iron, 6% nickel and contains more than ten other minerals including kamacite, taenite, dominate, plessite, schreibersite, triolite, graphite and others.
