MEROVINGIAN FRANKISH SILVER AND COPPER INLAID IRON PRICK SPUR
(Iron, silver and copper, 85 grams, 13 cm.).

Circa 6th-7th century AD. An iron prick spur with inlaid silver and copper decoration (Tauschierung) in the form of knotwork bands, vertical strips and cruciform elements; a separate rivetted plate with the prick to the rear; looped ends for attachment of the leather straps.

PROVENANCE:
From the private collection of an German Gentleman, acquired prior to 1982.
