Discoid bezel with incised motif of two figures, with heads and one body formed as a shallow socket; supplied with a museum-quality impression.

Gothic Bronze Radiate-Head Brooch

Comprising: D-shaped headplate with five radiating beast-head knops to the rim and running scroll to the plate, shallow ribbed bow, pentagonal footplate with lattice detailing and beast-head finial, lateral cells to accept inlay; to the reverse pin-lugs and pierced lug in place. 54.5 grams, 12.4 cm
Acquired on the European art market since the early 2000s. From the private Northern Ireland collection of R.M.
The lack of a full catchplate to the reverse of the brooch suggests that it was intended to be sewn permanently to the garment on which it was worn and not to be detached. -
