13 x 9 5/8 in. (11 grams, 33 x 24.5 cm).
Being a single, double-sided leaf from an early printed paper Latin bible for the Book of Judges, chapters 15-18; the text set in two columns of blackletter type with numerous hand-applied rubrications (embellishments) in red, with foliation and other marks; square woodblock versals; printed by Johann Gruninger of Strasbourg with commentary by Nicholas de Lyra. [No Reserve]

Accompanied by a Vulgate Latin text with English translation.
This portion of the Book of Judges tells of Samson slaying a thousand Philistines with the 'jawbone of an ass' together with the betrayal by Delilah, his loss of strength and capture when his hair was cut and and his eventual death by pulling down the pillars.

Medieval Limestone Finial with Scenes from the Nativity
12th-13th century A.D.Sold for (Inc. bp): £3,900
An architectural structural element, carved in two pieces: the upper section formed as a tulip with rounded base, the Nativity scene depicted on all sides comprising: the Virgin and Child seated on a throne, surrounded by divine light; the three wise men bearing gifts to her right, the foremost man kneeling next to the throne; behind the wise men a scene depicting Mary resting on a bed with Joseph beside her, the Child in his cradle with a donkey and an ox looking over him bathed in divine light; the last scene representing the meeting between Mary and Saint Elizabeth; the square base with spandrels. 812 grams total, 70-78 mm
Acquired in the early 2000s. Ex Norfolk, UK, collection. Accompanied by an academic report by Dr Raffaele D’Amato. This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate no.11782-205862.
The treatment of the faces is similar to various English Romanesque ecclesiastical sculpture; see for example Christ in Majesty in St Andrew's Church in Bugthorpe or a loose corbel from the St Bees Priory Church of Saint Mary and Saint Bega (Cumbria). -

The heater-shield pendant with integral suspension loop and traces of gilding, bearing device of a 'lion rampant queue fourchy or' (a golden lion rampant with a doubled tail). 5.4 grams, 34 mm
Found near Fakenham, Norfolk, UK, circa 2000. Property of a retired academic.
This device is associated with several families in the medieval period, including that of Havering (originating in Cornwall) and also with the Dukes of Limburg (of the house of Leuven, 1288-1406 AD), the family were also Dukes of Brabant and Lothier).
