Medieval Iron Knife with Bronze Pommel
15TH CENTURY A.D.
6 1/8 in. (26 grams, 15.5 cm).
Forge-welded single-edged blade with scooped tip and separate gilded baluster; wooden scales to both sides of the tang held in place with two studs on each side; trapezoidal pommel with incised segments and radiating hatching. [No Reserve]

This form of decorative ring with central stone setting is relatively common in the medieval period, when a focus on gemstones over metalwork became increasingly common. Several rings of this type are known and appear to have been popular in the 15th century. -

Comprising: suspension strap formed as two roundels with stamped pellet clusters and returned end holding the bar of a hinge securing the pendant, a quatrefoil type with its surface divided by bilinear bars into triangular zones, with a stamped rosette in each angle. 16.4 grams, 87 mm
