Medieval Illuminated Vellum Leaf from the Book of Genesis

PARIS, 13TH CENTURY A.D.

12 7/8 x 9 3/4 in. (585 grams total, 32.5 x 24.6 cm).

Featuring a large initial 'I' with the scenes of Creation with gold highlights, text from the Book of Genesis with red punctuation; set in a gilt glazed display frame.

This lot has been checked against the Interpol Database of stolen works of art and is accompanied by search certificate number no.13382-259015.

Cf. Herbert, J.A., Illuminated Manuscripts, London, 1911, pl.XXVI, for a similar miniature style in the Gospel lectionary of Paris, late 13th century.
