Medieval Gold Snake Ring Inscribed 'PRVDENTIA'
14TH-16TH CENTURY AD
3/4" (1.53 grams, 19 mm overall, 16.80 mm internal diameter (approximate size British M, USA 6 1/4, Europe 13.0, Japan 12)).
A barrel-section finger ring with textured outer face, formed as a snake gripping its tail; inscribed to the inner face in capitals 'PRVDENTIA' (wisdom).
Provenance
Private UK collection, by descent from the vendor's father, who formed his collection in the 1970s-1980s. Part of this collection was previously sold at Bonhams' Antiquities sale 17855, 6 October 2010, Lot 199; and in TimeLine Auctions June 2011 sale.
