1 in. (3.59 grams, 27.40 mm overall, 18.69 mm internal diameter (approximate size British R, USA 8 1/2, Europe 18 3/4, Japan 18)).

With round-section hoop and inverted pyramidal cell, inset garnet cabochon.

Provenance

Acquired on the European art market in the 1990s.
UK collection of a European gentleman.

    In England thimbles first occurred around 1300, probably under the influence of the Hispano-Moresque examples. However, it wasn't until around 1350 that thimbles became objects of everyday use in England.
