3/4" (2.92 grams, 19.64mm overall, 18.61mm internal diameter (approximate ring size British Q 1/2, USA 8 1/2, Europe 18.12, Japan 18)).
A gold ring with tapering shank engraved with flowers, widening at the bezel and set with a pyramid-shaped diamond crystal in a quatrefoil setting; to the underside of the bezel an inscription reading 'loey..elt' possibly for 'loyalty'.
PROVENANCE:
From an important private London, SW1, jewellery collection collection; acquired after 2000.
FOOTNOTES:
The diamond crystal is very rare for the period in that two of the pyramid faces are polished. This is one of the very earliest examples of diamond cutting, and is thus of historical importance. Accompanied by a scholarly note from Dr Ronald Bonewitz.
