Medieval Gilt Bronze Pendant

CENTRAL EUROPE, 12TH-14TH CENTURY A.D.

1 3/8 in. (11.42 grams, 34 mm).

Trapezoidal in plan with hinge knuckles to the narrow end, high-relief design of two birds' wings in plan flanking a vertical bar; possibly a horse harness mount. [No Reserve]

Provenance

Ex European collection, 1980s.
From the collection of a London antiquarian.
This lot is accompanied by an illustrated lot declaration signed by the Head of the Antiquities Department, Dr Raffaele D'Amato.

Footnotes

The piece is gilded to both faces, which is unusual and makes it likely that it was intended to be seen from both sides.
