Medieval Gilt Bronze Enamelled 'John L'Estrange' Heraldic Banneret
13TH CENTURY AD
2 1/4" (32 grams, 57 mm).
A lozengiform bronze banneret with loop to one angle, the field in red enamel with two lions passant gardant in silver to each face; the arms blazoned 'gules two lions passant gardant argent' are associated with 'John L'Estrange'.

Ex Beard collection, found Shropshire, UK.
Footnotes
In the Dering Roll of heraldry of 1270 AD, these arms are attributed to John L'Estrange (c. 1253-1309), later 1st Lord of Knockin, associated with Ruyton Castle, Shropshire, and involved in defence against the perennial raiding along the Welsh Marches.
