MEDIEVAL BRONZE 'TYRELL' FAMILY TRADE WEIGHT WITH HERALDIC SHIELDS
CIRCA 1260-1300 A.D.
1 1/8 in. (25.5 grams, 30 mm).

Hemispherical with suspension loop at apex; four low-relief heraldic shields within roundels to the shoulder, scalloped lower edge. [No Reserve]

PROVENANCE:
Found Rodings, Essex, UK.
Property of an Essex collector.

FOOTNOTES:
The arms are divided per pale with one half showing as concentric chevrons, associated with the Tyrrell family who held lands in Essex in the 12th century and after. Sir John Tyrrell (c.1382 - 2 April 1437) of Herongate, Essex, was an English landowner, lawyer, administrator, and politician who was chosen three times as Speaker of the House of Commons.
