A vesica-shaped ecclesiastical seal matrix with raised loop to reverse, depicting the matyred Saint Victor of Marseilles, holding a palm branch, flanked by foliate motifs; inscribed 'PRIORIE ET CONVENTVS MONASTERII SCE VICTORIE' ('The Priory and Convent of St. Victor'), legend.

From an important Mayfair, London, UK collection, acquired in the 1990's; inventory no.560.
LITERATURE:
Possibly associated with the Abbey of St. Victor in Paris, founded in 1113 by William of Champeaux, archdeacon of Notre-Dame de Paris.
