Medieval Bronze Mask Mount
12TH-14TH CENTURY A.D.
2 in. (16.3 grams, 50 mm).
Mount fragment formed as a facing mask with lateral flanges; the face formed with undulating lines to the brow, triangular nose with almond-shaped eyes, broad moustache and long flowing beard; D-shaped lateral flanges pierced for attachment, bulbous transverse finial also pierced; remains of loop above.

From an old UK collection, 1980s.

In England thimbles first occurred around 1300, probably under the influence of the Hispano-Moresque examples. However, it wasn't until around 1350 that thimbles became objects of everyday use in England. -
