Medieval Bronze Heraldic Weight Casing
LATE 13TH CENTURY A.D.
2 3/8 in. (137 grams, 61 mm).
Globular in form with a sub-triangular projection to apex pierced for suspension; three raised heater-shields to the equator displaying various (worn) heraldic devices, a lion, a spread eagle and an unidentified device; portion of base and lower body lost in antiquity. [No Reserve]

Knife handles can be classified according to their method of attachment into whittle and scale-tang handles. Whittle-tang handles were the most common type used in the early medieval period. Whittle tang handles (like here) were more common later and fixed by pushing the pointed end of the knife tang into the handle.
