7/8 - 1 in. (45 grams total, 22-27 mm).
Comprising one thimble accompanied by a Portable Antiquities Scheme record, the thimble with a spiral of dimples extending from the base to the crown, a narrow notch to the rim; accompanied by three similar thimbles of slightly different sizes. [4, No Reserve]

Rectangular, with lead came frame and later suspension loop to each corner; painted scene depicting a bishop wearing his mitre and chasuble and holding his crozier standing among a group of disputants in a gallery with reliquary caskets above. 436 grams, 26 x 19.5 cm
These panels come from a Parisian flat in the 7th arrondissement, very close to the Rodin Museum. The family owning the panels lived in the flat for several generations. Ex central London gallery. -

Acquired 1990s-early 2000s. East Anglian private collection.
During the Roman period chopping tools such as cleavers were predominantly used whilst during the medieval period knives and cleavers were the preferred tools for butchering carcasses. Cleavers were also often depicted in medieval art as having riveted handles. Such handles made a cleaver more durable, whilst using steel as a component of the blade made it last longer.
