ETHIOPIAN HIGHLANDS, CIRCA 1450 A.D.
16 1/8 in. (958 grams total, 41 cm including stand).
Lozengiform panel attached to a tapering socket; to each face an incised square panel with three nimbate figures, hatched band above, openwork border of crosses and scrolls; wire reinforcements attached to two large lateral loops; mounted on a custom-made stand. [No Reserve]

The obverse depicting the busts of St Peter and St Paul each within an inverted pear shaped compartment defined by pellets; cross pattee supported on a staff between the busts and at the top of the bulla in the centre letters 'SPASPE', abbreviations for St Paul and St Peter; reverse inscribed over three lines 'GRE/GORIVS./PP.VIIII', with an omega above the letters 'PP'; both obverse and reverse faces with a pelletted perimeter. 47.8 grams, 39 mm
