Medieval Brass Cross with The Trinity and Archangels
ETHIOPIAN HIGHLANDS, CIRCA 1450 A.D.
16 1/8 in. (958 grams total, 41 cm including stand).
Lozengiform panel attached to a tapering socket; to each face an incised square panel with three nimbate figures, hatched band above, openwork border of crosses and scrolls; wire reinforcements attached to two large lateral loops; mounted on a custom-made stand. [No Reserve]

The 'Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre of Jerusalem' was an order of knighthood under the protection of the Pope, formed around 1099 AD by Duke Godfrey of Bouillon, the leader of the First Crusade. It was established for the protection of pilgrims travelling to the Holy Land and was recognised by a Papal Bull in about 1113 AD. -

Lentoid-section hoop supporting an ellipsoid bezel with gusset to the rim, hatched bezel with reserved lozenge panel. 7.6 grams, 24.6 mm overall, 17.8 mm internal diameter (approximate size British O, USA 7, Europe 14.98, Japan 14).
