Medieval Brass Cross with God the Father and an Evangelist
ETHIOPIAN HIGHLANDS, CIRCA 1450 A.D.
5 7/8 in. (252 grams, 15 cm).
Lozengiform in plan, openwork design of an expanding-arm cross bordered by scrolls and knotwork with beaded borders; central cross with nimbate bearded figure in long robe, obverse holding book and cross, reverse with hands flat on chest; incised legend to lower body of each figure and in the panel above. [No Reserve]
