Massive Stone Age Thin-Butted Knapped Axe Head
EARLY-MIDDLE NEOLITHIC PERIOD, CIRCA 3800-3100 B.P.
12 1/2 in. (2.1 kg, 32 cm).
Worked and unpolished on all surfaces and edges, trapezoidal in plan with rectangular cross-section and slightly convex broad sides, straight narrow sides; butt rounded and with reduced thickness; rounded cutting edge; grey to beige 'marbled' flint with inclusions.

Comprising mostly bifacial and uniface leaf-shaped and piriform flint and chert arrowheads; probably from the Sahara region of North Africa. 113 grams total, 23-41 mm

Similar specimens of arrowheads have been found in the Eastern Sahara Region of Abu Tartur Plateau. Most of the arrowheads came from the El Jarar Neolithic, c. 7700-7300 B.P. (c.6500-6100 B.C.). Other parallels occur in the region of Kharga Oasis.
