Late Roman Bronze Open Oil Lamp

Plano-convex type with incuse design to the underside of a bird advancing on a baseline, head turned to the rear with a tendril in its beak; supplied with a museum-quality impression. 1.06 grams, 14 mm

Fragments of wall plaster with rendered surface painted with mainly Pompeii red, pale blue, brown and white detailing; some with an impression of timber laths to the reverse. 1.46 kg total, 7.9-16 cm

These small fragments, for analogies with the fragments of Pompeii, seem to belong to the second style of Roman painting, red panels representing highlight and shadow, decorated with vegetal interlaces. A red grenade fillet probably framed some panels. A fragment shows alternate blue and red colours over a cream background, maybe pertinent to a socle.

Discoid in plan with a beaded rim and concentric rings; at the centre, two draped busts, a male and a female, with faint remains of inscription surrounding; the other side polished and tinned. 130 grams, 91 mm

The image on the back of the mirror depicts an imperial couple from the 4th century. The type of diadem worn by the male figure, clad in a paludamentum and cuirass, and the man's profile suggest a depiction of Constantine and Fausta, or of Constantine and his mother Helena.
