Norman Large Three-Piece Font

11th-12th century AD

A carved Sussex limestone font comprising a discoid stepped base, plain columnar shaft and barrel-shaped bowl with incised circumferential rings to the outer face. 299 kg total, 95cm (37 1/2" (Available to view at our Harwich head office only)). Very fine condition. Rare.

Provenance
Ex Howell collection; previously from an Oswestry, Shropshire, UK, collection; formerly acquired from a private collection formed in the 1960s; accompanied by an Art Loss Register certificate no. S00156424.
