Large Medieval Silver Archer's Thumb Ring
15TH CENTURY A.D.
1 1/8 in. (17.36 grams, 27.91 mm overall, 20.93 mm internal diameter (approximate size British W, USA 11, Europe 25, Japan 24)).
With barrel-shaped hoop and triangular spur, impressed ropework bands and ring-and-dot motifs.

The double-edged axe was used by the Roman cavalry between the 9th and 11th centuries. The correspondence of this example with the types described by Emperor Leo VI the Wise, is surprising: it is clear that this typology was not a working tool but a war axe, suitable for breaking helmets, breastplates, shields and skulls since it inflicted devastating blows to the head and arms by damaging the protective equipment. -

Western Asiatic Decorated Bronze Pectoral Collar

Broad sheet-bronze halter-shaped collar with dentilled outer edge, in two offset overlapped layers; bands of repoussé domed pellets to the outer and inner edges, rectangular cells to accept glass or organic inserts, two clusters of circular cells surrounding rectangular ones; the surface with dense hatching and reserved tendril and leaf motifs; attachment loops to reverse. 638 grams, 34.5 cm
