13 1/2 in. (147 grams, 34.2 cm).

Long-bone from a large animal trimmed to a narrow triangular blade for use in weaving. [No Reserve]

Provenance

From a family collection mostly formed in the 1940s-1950s, thence by descent.

Published

Exhibited at the Harwich Museum, Harwich, Essex, UK, 11th September-2nd December 2024; accompanied by a copy of a photograph of the artefacts on display.

    From a Northants, UK, collection, 1990s.

    The design appears to be based on the 'Maid and the Unicorn' tapestry now in the Cluny Museum, Paris, dated to circa 1500 A.D. The field of the tapestry is strewn with numerous flowers which gives the name 'millefleurs' ('thousand flowers') to the type.
