Large Chinese Decorated Porcelain Bowl Pair
EARLY 19TH CENTURY A.D.
14 in. (4.9 kg total, 35.5 cm wide).
Decorated with a polychrome frieze of scalloped cartouches displaying birds perched amongst fruiting vegetation, insects in the field, repeated around the neck with flowering plants alternating with cartouches depicting birds amongst vegetation; interior with gilt roundel to base with floral spray, three plants around. [2]

The cylindrical-bodied soapstone seal engraved with landscape scenes and characters within a roundel, dragon clutching flaming pearl finial carved in the round; seal to base formed as a flower head with central character. 697 grams, 15 cm high

Chinese Tang Ceramic Standing Camel

Modelled in the round standing on a rectangular base and styled with semi-naturalistic anatomical detailing, its humps falling in different positions, tail held to one side of the rump, detailing to the coat, mane, eyes and muzzle. 3.55 kg, 44 cm high

Camels symbolised the prosperity of the Silk Route, the trade routes between China, Europe, and the Middle East. This Bactrian camel, like most of the terracotta figures produced during the Imperial Tang period, was part of the funerary kit. -
