Japanese Meiji Bronze Vessel

19TH-20TH CENTURY A.D.

9 3/4 in. (2.28 kg, 24.5 cm).

Piriform in profile with flared foot, the sidewall with landscape and a snake, birds and plants modelled in high-relief; band of text to the neck; calligraphic seal to the underside.

This vessel is part of the shipwreck cargo recovered off the coast of Vietnam at Hoi An. The ceramics themselves were probably made in the area of Chu Dau.
