Facing lion scalp / Forepart of ox to right; ΣA above, olive branch to left, Γ (date) below; all within incuse square. Barron Class VII, 72a (A33/P72) (this coin); Slg. O'Hagan 591 (this coin); Coll. Berlin (Fox coll.); HGC 6, 1190. Near Extremely Fine. Amazing old cabinet tone. Well centred and of fine style. Extremely rare date (no other examples on CoinArchives).(12.96gr, 24mm, 9h.).

It has been suggested that such Greek lead test strikes were made by itinerant engravers in an effort to sell their services to cities that produced coins, much like modern coin patterns, which are made by artists to help officials visualise a coin before it is approved for production.
