Large Indus Valley Terracotta Jar with Palms and Bovines

A substantial squat jar with everted rim, bands of circumferential linear ornament and frieze to the shoulder with zebu and foliage. 2.6 kg, 28 cm
Fine condition.
From the property of a London gentleman; previously in the private collection of the late David Gold, formed 1970s. From the private collection of John Meredith, acquired since the 1990s; thence by descent.
David Gold amassed a sizable collection of Indus Valley pottery, both vessels and figurative during his retirement, a plaque to David and his brother was recently unveiled by Westminster Council above 43 Carnaby Street, commemorating their business that made Carnaby Street synonymous with fashion in the 1960s. -

Wooden rectangular frame with two door panels, hinged and with staples and a hasp; black painted surface with gilt edging; floral motifs to frame; each door with a painted arch, standing female figure in profile and dog beneath; the left figure holding a sitar and the other a mridangam double-ended drum. 1.31 kg, 38.2 x 36 cm
