Design by George William de Saulles. EDWARD VII KING & EMPEROR, crown bust to right; DES in small lettering beneath truncation / ✿ HONG - KONG ✿, 香 港 一 仙, mintmark above, denomination and date below. KM 11; Schön 1. Uncirculated.(7.62gr, 28mm, 12h.).

Provenance

From the private collection of author and historian Dr DeWitt Bailey; thence by descent to his grandson.

    This issue was withdrawn in May 1881, except for 38,400 pieces. (McCammon states that 38,240 pieces remained, but this is not in agreement with the Royal Mint documents.) The withdrawn coins were returned to the Royal Mint and melted for the 1881 one twelfth of a shilling coinage (Numista).
