English Medieval Henry VI - London - Leaf-Trefoil / Trefoil Mule Halfgroat

1438-1443 AD, leaf-trefoil/trefoil mule. Obv: facing bust with leaf on breast in tressure of seven arcs with +HENRIC DI GRA REX ANGL Z FR legend with saltire stops. Rev: long cross and pellets with no initial cross and POSVI DEUM ADIVTORE M legend with trefoil after DEVM and CIV TAS LON DON inner legend for London mint. 1.77 grams.

About very fine, obverse from worn die, slightly clipped, extremely rare.

Ex. J. Fay collection; found Matching Green, Essex, 2011.

FOOTNOTES:
The trefoil issue halfgroat is only known from two reverse dies muled with a single leaf-trefoil obverse die. David Greenhalgh in his study published as The Galata Guide to Medieval Halfgroats lists three known specimens of this particular coin and die combination; one in each of the British and Fitzwilliam Museums and one (present location unknown) from the Reigate Hoard; this is the fourth known example.
