Matched pair of gold hoop earrings with hook-and-eye closure; three applied loops to the lower edge each with a pearl in a cup setting, turquoise-coloured translucent gemstone beneath; restored. 12.27 grams total, 52-54 mm



From a collection of a London lady, acquired annually during 1990s-2000s.

The turquoise-coloured stones were artificially stained in antiquity.

Disc mirror with handle comprising: slightly dished mirror with thick rim and low-relief image of two females dancing with a sash connecting them; punched crescents in the field; reverse with dentilled border; D-section handle with angled junction and knop finial; provided with a custom-made stand; later engraving. 300 grams, 26 cm including stand

With a piriform body and narrow foot, deep shoulder and flange rim, strap handle to the rear; the rim and shoulder with radiating strokes, concentric bands to the body and foot, frieze of stylised running hounds below the shoulder. 34 grams, 63 mm high

Proto-Corinthian aryballoi of the same type, probably of Etruscan manufacture, in buff-ware decorated with dark metallic, purple-maroon and red-brown bands have been found in the Veii excavations. John Boardman noted that the shape in Corinth barely survives the 7th century, but these small pots are still found in Etruscan graves of the first half, or at least the first quarter, of the 6th century B.C.
