With a flat-section hoop, each finial formed as an offset serpentine head; hollow to the underside.

Comprising: eighteen pendants, each with tubular shank and open-ended bulb finial with five lateral vents, some with incised circumferential bands; one similar with dense crosshatching to the shank and bulb, four radiating spurs to the mouth; two larger pendants of similar form, one with six slots to the bulb and the other with seven; all mounted on a felt-backed display board. 2.16 kg total, 43 x 33 cm

Bell kraters were commonly used in regions of ancient Italy for mixing and serving wine during communal gatherings, thanks to their wide shape and flared mouth. These vessels also served as artistic expressions, reflecting the cultural tastes of the time. The Chevron Group is the conventional name for a group of ancient Apulian red-figure vase painters who were active in Southern Italy between approximately 335-310 BC. They are named for their distinctive use of a band of chevron patterns to encircle the rims of the small kraters (mixing vessels) they decorated. -

This category of rings shows a narrow band-like hoop and a slightly convex exterior surface, undecorated, retaining its width all around. The large bezel is in the form of a pointed oval.
