Greek Hellenistic Gold Necklace with Lions
3RD CENTURY BC
17 cm (26 grams, 43 cm).
A necklace comprising six hollow gold beads fashioned as ridged hemispheres with attached palmette details, including fine filigree work, three on each side of the clasp; interspersed with elaborate lanceolate beads with raised grid patterning and extremely fine granulation detailing, with biconical loops; translucent pale glass spacer beads; the main body of the necklace comprising narrow biconical gold beads with repousse loop patterning, interspersed with finely detailed hollow circular repousse beads fashioned as lions' heads, with similar glass spacers; restrung with modern clasp; with two additional beads, unstrung.
