GREEK CORINTHIAN EXALEIPTRON
(Ceramic, 920 grams, 24 cm.).

Circa 8th century BC. A ceramic exaleiptron vessel in orange fabric with red and white painted decoration in the orientalising style, characterised by floral and animal motifs; to the upper face a procession of elongated bovines and felines; to the inner rim, a series of tongue-shaped petals; to the inner bottom face a stylised flower motif within a circle; two protruding rims to the body of the vessel; flat-section scrolled hande to the side and pedestal base beneath.

PROVENANCE:
Acquired on the London art market in the 1960's.

FOOTNOTES:
The inward curved lip of the exaleiptron's rim would prevent spillage when the vessel was being carried.
