Greek Attic Black-Figure Mastoid Cup by the Caylus Painter
5TH CENTURY BC
6 1/2" (125 grams, 16.5cm).
An Attic black-figure mastoid cup by the Caylus painter, both sides decorated with a winged goddess flanked by youths sitting on blocks or folding chairs; the winged females with white skin and eyes in applied red; some figures with red diadems, youths wearing cloaks with red bordures and white triple dots, two also clad in himatia (mantles) rendered with large white blobs; leafless branches and grapes in the field, single ivy leaves below the handles.
Provenance
Property of a Swiss collector; formerly in a private collection formed in the 1990s.
